Why this holiday celebrates today? On May 5, 1882, by Decree of Emperor Alexander III, the first diving school in the world was founded in Kronstadt. And the holiday was established by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin of May 5, 2002.
There are some interesting facts:
A diver (frogman) and a diver (fan) are not the same thing. The very first and main difference is that in Russia a frogman ("Vodolaz") is a profession, and a diver is an amateur. Anyone can become a fan diver by taking the appropriate courses. And to become a professional diver, in addition to long training, it is also necessary to approach a number of criteria. However, on this day it is customary to congratulate both those and others, and even manufacturers of equipment for underwater diving.
The record diving depth in a diving suit is 416 meters, it belongs to Russian military divers. The explorer of the World Ocean Jacques-Yves Cousteau, who together with Emile Gagnan in 1943 developed and tested scuba gear, dreamed of becoming a pilot. But after a car accident, he was forced to abandon the sky in favor of the underwater world.
